Stefanie Pender
is an artist who moves between antiquated and contemporary media to bring objects into and out of existence. Operating within the plane where new technologies intersect with traditional systems of making, her interests are in the modulation between material and idea, between form and abstraction, and between presence and absence.
She is dedicated to the discipline of traditional techniques of craft processes and to understanding the embodiment of intangible culture. She is a recent recipient of a Fulbright Grant in Italy, where she spent the past year apprenticing in workshops to experience the passage of tacit knowledge of glassmaking.
